We’ve been invaded by the in-laws! Well, they were invited, but invaded sounds so much funnier 🙂 It’s a strange weekend for them to come up because Dr. Man is on call and he’s been sick for the past week. However, he’s been wanting to see his parents for a while now and who am I to refuse? This means not much blogging until Monday. And now I’ve got to go and keep the two dogs from knocking over coffee cups!

Just be thankful you have a house! We lose regardless of which set of parents come to visit. When it’s my MIL, she comes with her niece, and they stay in a hotel. Then they bitch and moan about how they have to pay money to stay in a hotel to visit us, but then they never leave the hotel, and just lounge around in the room all weekend and order room service (at least they are getting their money’s worth!). So then my husband is upset that his family doesn’t even want to see him, so I get his mother complaining in one ear, and my husband complaining in the other. When my parents come to visit, they actually want to see us, so they stay with us for the weekend, but as we have to live in walking distance to the hospital/university, which happens to be in the most expensive part of D.C., $2K/month only gets us a 700 square foot one bedroom place. So my parents sleep on the super-sized air mattress in the living room (which takes up the ENTIRE extent of the living room) and then we are crawling on top of each other all weekend. At least, thank god, I live nextdoor to a Starbucks now. Neither my husband nor I drink coffee, so we do not own a coffee pot (not that we would have room to store one even if we did own one). At my previous residence, it was always dramatic in the morning when my parents realized that there! was! no! coffee!!!
Amanda: Have fun with the in-laws!
EtBr: My in-laws never stay with us because my father-in-law is allergic to cats. For this reason, we will always have a cat. 🙂
Enjoy the time with your in-laws!
I hope the invaded are treated fairly 😉
Hope you are having a great visit!
We had a lovely visit. It was much more relaxed than I thought it would be. I was really worried about entertaining the in-laws while Dr. Man was doing rounds, but it worked out rather well.
EtBr: I am ever so happy that we have a house. Before when the in-laws would come up they’d stay on our futon in the living room. It made going to the bathroom difficult (due to lay out of apt), let alone getting coffee. At least now they get their own room and I can get coffee in peace.
Mrs Whatsit: I once told my Mom that if she didn’t stop whining at me (about why I don’t have kids, I live so far away, etc.), I’d get a cat. She’s horribly allergic. 😉 (She stopped and we have the Dixie Dog now.)
SG: We were treated to dinner and breakfast! So, the invaded were treated in accordance with the Heisenberg Convention on In-Law Visits.
Academic and Albatross: Thanks it went rather well!
I hope you combined some celebration with the visitation.
Glad the visit went well!
